Annie met Eddie when she was a teenager. Over the course of the next 15 years, their lives become enmeshed in a world of violence and drugs. Annie had prayed for a way out for her and her teenager daughter, Kate. Eddie wouldn't let them leave. Bolted doors, empty promises, handcuffs and beatings are the only thing that Eddie allowed.
Eventually, Annie flees with the help of her family. Then Eddie is found murdered by the gun that Annie had bought at a pawn shop just days before. Suddenly, she realizes that her family did more than help her escape. They made sure she would never have to run again.
